[Linux directory hierarchy]

We will learn from the basics in the basics toward acquiring LPIC1.

The structure of the Linux directory hierarchy may vary slightly depending on the distribution. The main directories are almost the same.

Main directories

bin Basic commands that can be used by general users Contains binaries for basic system commands.

boot Files required for booting such as Linux kernel

dev Device file

etc System configuration file and startup script file Directory where host-specific system (application) configuration files are located

home User's home directory The capacity tends to increase.

lib Library file Library provided by the system

media External HDD, USB memory, DVD drive, etc.

proc Process information

root root user's home directory

sbin Basic commands used by system administrators Contains binaries for basic system administration commands.

sys System information

tmp Temporary file storage Anyone can read and write, and danger should be considered.

usr Programs, libraries, etc.

var Frequently updated files such as log files Dynamically changing files such as system logs Variable data.
