Arch Linux installation notes

I reinstalled Arch Linux, so that memo (January 4, 2020)

Arch Linux, which has been in use since the summer of 2018, has been unable to update since around December. When I searched, it seems that the unsupported package is somehow in the way and an update error is occurring. The delete command I typed in was fatal, and X stopped booting, so I backed up my data files and then reinstalled from scratch.

Which method to use-> archfi

I've read back the previous notes, but it's not fun to repeat the same method. So recently, there are many tutorials of that kind on YouTube, so when I was looking for it, there was a video introducing the script for installation, so I used it as a reference.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUtpHFI-vjg

I tried the method shown in this video and it installed successfully. As follows Download the archfi script with wget and Run the archfi script.

# wget archfi.sf.net/archfi
# sh archfi

As an environment for executing scripts

Both methods require a network environment, and when you execute the archfi script, the necessary files are downloaded from the net and installed. The script is interactive, so you can run it in order from the top of the menu. If you have experience installing Linux, you can do it. Even beginners can install it after trying it a few times.

  1. We will postpone the handling of Japanese, and first build it so that X can be started in an English environment. The reason is that Japanese fonts are not installed by default, so even if you try to start up in Japanese, the characters will be garbled.
  2. As / boot, / home, /, we assume three independent partitions. It depends on what you use it for, but for everyday desktop use, I think that 200MB, 20GB, and 25GB are sufficient, respectively.
  3. As for the display manager at login, lightdm seems to be the latest fashion, but in my case, I prefer lxdm, which can switch locales. English display environment and Japanese display environment can be selected at login.
  4. To generate a Japanese locale, edit /etc/locale.gen, delete the # in front of ja_JP.UTF-8 UTF-8, and then type # locale-gen from the console. OK
  5. Make it possible to start up to X with cinnamon, en_US. Japanese environment is possible after starting X. Other than cinnamon is OK, multiple desktop environments can be installed and switched.
  6. Install noto-fonts-cjk for Japanese display. like yay -S noto-fonts-cjk.
  7. For Japanese IM, install the standard fcitx-im, fcitx-configtool, and fcitx-mozc.
  8. Log in with the display manager, so write the following in ~ / .xprofile.
export GTK_IM_MODULE=fcitx
export QT_IM_MODULE=fcitx
export XMODIFIERS="@im=fcitx"

If you add Mozc in the keyboard settings of Fcitx settings, you will be able to input Japanese. After that, you can install your favorite application. Since X is up, you can install it with GUI as well as command line.
