[LINUX] CentOS 8 installation procedure (latest version)

I decided to write this article because there was no easy-to-understand article for beginners who would teach me the installation procedure when I started to touch Linux, and I had a hard time installing it, so the procedure is as easy to understand as possible. I wanted to explain.

I'm trying to write for beginners who haven't touched Linux yet and are interested in Linux but haven't even installed it because it seems difficult, and want to touch CentOS 8 from now on! I am thinking.

Development environment

Installation procedure

  1. Download the ISO file from the official

  2. Download Virtual Box from the official

  3. How to create a virtual machine

  4. Virtual machine settings

  5. Virtual machine startup and installation

I would like to follow the above procedure.

Installation procedure explanation

Download ISO file from official

-Access CentOS Mirror, and when the following screen is displayed, from the top of the screen Select Mirror to download.

Download VirtualBox from the official

Go to VirtualBox, and when the screen below is displayed, download the one compatible with your OS from VirtualBox 6.1.10 platform packages. Please give me. VirtualBox.PNG

Creating a virtual machine

--Start VirtualBox and click the new button in the image below.

VirtualBox new.PNG

-Click ** New ** to open a tab called Name and Operating System. Set the name and machine folder as you like, type ** Linux **, and version ** Red Hat (64-bit) **. Select.

--Keep the default memory size of 1024MB and click ** Next **.

--Please click ** Create ** as it is for the hard disk.

--Keep the file type on your hard disk and click ** Next **.

--Please click ** Next ** as it is for the storage on the physical hard disk.

--Click ** Create ** without changing the location and size of the file.

--This completes the virtual machine creation !!

Virtual machine settings

--Click the virtual machine settings you created earlier and select the ISO file you downloaded in advance to the ** controller IDE optical drive ** in the storage.

--Uncheck Audio in Audio ** Disable **.

--Uncheck the USB controller with USB to ** disable **.

--Then click ** OK ** to complete the setup.

Virtual machine startup and CentOS 8 setup instructions

--Start the virtual machine, and when the tab appears, select ** ISO file ** that you set earlier.

--Then press ** Tab ** to change the CentOS screen resolution.

--Enter the above to change the resolution. (Here, it is set to 1360 * 768, but there is no problem with any resolution.)

*** Please note that if you are using an English keyboard, the input location for "=" is different from that for a Japanese keyboard. ** ** ** The "=" on the English keyboard is a "^" without pressing the Shift key on the Japanese keyboard. ** **

--After that, if the following screen is displayed, the installation is completed without any problem. SetUp.PNG

――If you scroll down this screen, you will find ** Japanese Japanese **. Select it and click ** Continue **.

Below is the story of the next screen.

--Date and time

Select ** Asia ** for the date and time region and ** Tokyo ** for the city and press ** Done **.

--Installation source

Just press ** Done ** for the installation source.

--Software selection

To select the software, select the minimum installation this time and press ** Done **.

Press ** Done ** as it is for the installation destination.

KDUMP is enabled by default, so uncheck it and press ** Done **.

--Network and host name

Change the host name to CentOS8, make sure Ethernet is connected and press ** Done **.

--Then press ** Start Installation **.

--root password

Set any root password here.

--User created

Create any user you need.

--Press ** Reboot ** after the installation is complete.

--After restarting, ** power off ** from VirtualBox.

--Open the settings of the virtual machine created this time and ** erase the disk from the virtual drive of the optical drive of the controller IDE in the storage **.

--Then press OK.

This time I created it with Windows 10, but I think that there are cases where the environment and OS may differ depending on the person and it can not be installed as well.

Basically, I think that you can install without problems with the procedure described above, but if you have something like "I did it according to the procedure but it did not work ...", it would be helpful if you could comment.

I posted a Qiita article for the first time this time!

It's a simple content, but I wrote it because I wanted beginners to be interested in Linux.

If you are not accustomed to environment construction and installation, you may not be able to do it quickly, so I hope this article will be helpful for beginners.

――I confirmed that it can be built even if it is not this method, although there are some differences. --When you change the screen size, the screen may become difficult to see and the buttons may not be pressed at the last restart. In that case, you can also force the button with the ** Tab key **.
