[PYTHON] I participated in the translation activity of Django official documents

Django is good!

I use it as a hobby, but I feel that there is a lot of English in the official Ikansen documents, which is a barrier for newcomers.

Of course, it is good to write an article on Qiita, but why not translate the document itself in the first place? Furthermore, if the method is published in an article, other people may be interested in it. I thought, so I will write an article.

How do you get involved?

Create a Transifex account and apply to join the team.

Once approved, the translation will actually be possible.

In my case, I was authenticated about two days after the application.

Translate

First of all, I learned that we should not look at the efforts of our predecessors.

――Don't rush into Google Translate without getting any permission.

This seems to prevent various problems related to rights. Well, in the first place, it's okay if you're done with Google Translate. Besides, I feel that there is something like a habit peculiar to translation software, so I think that it will come out in the review.

--Technical and technical words are used as they are in the style used in the app.

I don't know how other OSS projects work, but Django didn't hesitate because the words and phrases I wanted to keep were properly specified.

How was it?

First of all,

--Learn more about the translated field

I think this is the biggest merit of participating in translation activities. Writing down what your favorite framework looks like is not an experience that you can easily get, so I will study the scope again. The bottleneck is that knowledge is steadily falling out if it is a format with only inputs that tends to be done by self-study when there is no time, but after gaining knowledge, it is necessary to understand properly and assemble it in Japanese in an easy-to-understand manner. I think it was a great help in improving understanding.

And second,

--Improve your English

If you write it correctly, it may be correct to become familiar with English around technology. Also, the original document is in English, and I have to take the meaning in English for the time being as I will translate it. Therefore, it is also a big point that the resistance to reading English is lessened.

I'm sure there are others, but I think the above two points are the main merits.

I'm not confident enough to participate in OSS ...

I think it's okay if you study hard with enthusiasm. At least when it comes to Django, the translations I applied for are reviewed, and I don't have the technical skills, but I like it so I decided to get involved.

If the number of people involved in the community increases, it will have a positive effect, and I think OSS is good because it allows us to participate in some way.

If you're interested in reading this article, let's get involved with Django!
