[PYTHON] 1st KPMG Japan Secret Calculation Hackathon Report

Results and impressions of participating in ** 1st KPMG Japan Secret Calculation Hackathon ** Report.

Overview

This time, one of the sponsors, ** EAGLYS Co., Ltd. **, was invited to the secret calculation hackathon sponsored by ** KPMG Japan ** (probably the first time in Japan). I participated as /)! Other sponsors were ** National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) **, ** Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. **, ** Eltes Co., Ltd. **. It was held on November 7th and 8th for two days, and despite the fact that it was held on weekdays, many people participated and it was very exciting! !!

Purpose

originally,

――I want more people to know the calculation method using the cryptographic technology called secret calculation! ――I would like to gather various people such as business people, engineers, students, etc. to think about use cases together in what situations secret calculation can be used! --I would like engineers to actually write code that uses secret calculations and feel how secret calculations are performed!

This hackathon was held from such a thought. EAGLYS provided tutorial code using an open source library, use case examples, and demo code for the first secret calculation hackathon in Japan. If you are interested, please see the demo code at ** he-hackathon-2019 **.

Report (impression)

It's easy to summarize what you enjoyed and what you thought.

――A total of about 25 participants from 6 teams of working people and university students gathered, and each of them created a demo code from a use case, which was a wonderful result. In the presentation of the deliverables, each team made an enthusiastic presentation, and the judges asked questions, and a good discussion took place. ――The moderator of KPMG was interesting, and I'm glad that everyone was able to relax and enjoy the hackathon. ――The hospitality of the KPMG staff was wonderful. The hackathon managed wonderfully, such as preparing drinks and food, and proceeding on the day. --We received a valuable lecture from a homomorphic cryptographer at NICT. I think it was a very useful lecture for beginners because it was a content that even people who do not know secret calculation at all can understand, and knowledgeable people will have personal discussions later, and high-level discussions will be held. It was very exciting.

result

As a result of the examination

-** Winner ** "Use secret calculation to vote electronically" -** Mitsubishi Estate Award ** "Use of secret calculation for anomaly detection using pulse" -** Special prize ** "Calculate the image features of the date matching site by secret calculation"

The three ideas and the team that created the demo were commended. Other teams are also close, "sharing hidden data in the industry and secretly calculating the anomaly detection model", "performing career diagnosis from hidden performance data", "using secret calculation when calculating childcare costs" There was an announcement of a very interesting use case.

Summary

I think that many people were new to secret calculation, but I think it was a very fulfilling two days, as they showed me the deliverables that I couldn't think I had completed in two days, from the idea to the completeness of the code. I would like to manage the deliverables with git in the same way, and do my best to create a Japanese open community in the secret calculation area where I will scrutinize more and update new code.

Thank you to all the participants and the organizers for two days! !!
